I am Andreyez Alvarado, the president of Longhorn LULAC. This is my second year here at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Government and Spanish with a concentration in Hispanic Studies. I found LULAC in the west mall tabling, went to one of the meetings and just absolutely fell in love. I just looked at all of the other college student with such ambition and determination that I knew LULAC was the place to be. I chaired the Civil Right committee the second semester of my first year helping with the SB 1070 demonstration that was a great success. As well, I helped with many other events that we have done such as volunteering at the Micah 6 food bank and helping at Explore UT. I hope you all will find LULAC as great and wonderful an organization as I do. Hook’em!!!!!!!
My name is Karen Grimaldo and I am Secretary of Longhorn LULAC. As the Secretary, I make all the Agendas and take Minutes at every meeting. I am responsible for the LULAC e-mail account as well as Facebook. I am passionate about LULAC because I enjoy this organization’s involvement within UT and the Austin community, especially its assistance to Hispanics. I enjoy how this organization is diverse in its members as well as in the activities/events it conducts. LULAC has helped me become more aware about current issues in society and it has altered my perspective on several important matters. Also, I’m a 2nd year Undeclared Business student. I aspire to one day work at a prestigious accounting firm in Houston and then to open up the first bilingual notary office in my hometown.
Hello fellow Longhorns my name is Brenda Castillo, Treasurer and the Chair of the Fundraising Committee of Longhorn LULAC. I am responsible for the financial transactions of the organization as well as organizing events to help our funds. I am a 2nd year Business student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. I was born and raised in Fort Worth, TX but my family is originally from San Luis Potosi. Coming from a huge Mexican family I believe in and strongly support the rights of all the Latino community. LULAC has proved to be a strong advocate of Latino rights which is why I decided to join so that I too could be involved. This organization is committed to providing service not only to UT students but to the Austin community as well. We also have tons of fun in all our events so join our LULAC family, you won't be disappointed. Hook em! \m/
Welcome everyone to Longhorn LULAC!! I am Angelica Aguilar and I am in charge of Publicity. I am a second year psychology major, and I am also interested in taking part of the "Business Foundations" Program. I enjoy being part of the LULAC family because of the dedication toward educational forums, and the community service. I believe we have made a difference by talking to younger generations about college. I love going back home, to Fort Worth, to share my college experience and knowledge! I look forward to another year full of events and community service, any suggestions and bright ideas to make this organization better are always welcomed! We look forward to having new members!
I am a third year student at the McCombs School of Business pursuing a marketing degree. I am also an interdisciplinary studies student interested in learning about another academic discipline alongside my business education. I am supplementing my business degree with an Environmental Studies Bridging Disciplines Certificate from the School of Undergraduate Studies. I am interested in marketing because I have the opportunity to create, communicate and match products with customers according to their unique needs. I aim to use both my degree and certificate to promote ecological responsible initiatives in business. What I like about Longhorn LULAC the most is the dedication Longhorn LULAC members demonstrate while collaborating with the Latino and Austin community through community events. I remained in LULAC after attending the first meeting my freshmen year because of the student leaders and officers at that time. I think the past leaders motivated me to become involved in the Austin community both inside and outside the university even when I was new to the city. I look forward to meeting this school year’s new LULAC members and working with them to continue community involvement.
Sergeant Of Arms:
Carlos A. Cárdenas
Welcome to Longhorn LULAC! I am Carlos Cardenas and I serve this year as the Sergeant of Arms for Longhorn LULAC. I am currently a 2nd year student at the McCombs School of Business shooting for a BBA in Management Information Systems. I was born in Zacetecas, Mexico but came to the states when I was two and have resided in Fort Worth, Texas for about 12 years now. Once I complete my undergraduate career at UT, I plan to go on ahead and pursue a Master in Architecture. As the Sergeant of Arms for our council, I am responsible for maintaining order during meetings to ensure that our agenda is completed in a timely manner. I am also in charge of updating the website with events and notices to our members and community. I chose to be in Longhorn LULAC primarily because of its commitment to the community around the city of Austin. The driving force that has made me so involved has been the ability to positively impact the lives of students and those around us.
Hello! I'm Jenipher Paredes, this is my second year at The University of Texas. I am currently undeclared, but plan to major in Public Relations and then attend Dental School. As the Chaplin, I am in charge of reciting the LULAC prayer to initiate our meetings. I also take part in helping other board members if needed. I joined Longhorn LULAC because it opened up a family with the same core values I grew up with. Through leadership and commitment we are able to make a difference, because I am a true believer that "What starts here changes the world!"
